Description
This Dokra Nagara Tribal Musical Sculpture shows a moment of pure cultural rhythm in brass: a tribal figure in the middle of a beat, hands on the Nagara, the traditional drum that has been a part of India’s indigenous people’s ceremonial and happy existence for hundreds of years. Using the 4,000-year-old lost-wax casting method from West Bengal, every expressive motion and textural detail is first carved in beeswax and then cast in warm brass alloy. This small sculpture, which measures 5×5 inches and 290 grams, holds the spirit and energy of living tribal music.
