Description
This Dokra Nagara Tribal Musical Sculpture shows a moment of pure cultural rhythm in brass: a tribal figure in the middle of a beat, hands on the Nagara, the traditional drum that has been a part of India’s indigenous people’s ceremonial and happy existence for hundreds of years. Using the 4,000-year-old lost-wax casting method from West Bengal, every expressive motion and textural detail is first carved in beeswax and then cast in warm brass alloy. This small sculpture, which measures 5.5 inches and 290 grams, holds the spirit and energy of living tribal music.
